Note from Sensei
My name is Cindy Engebretsen. I am a retired teacher. I worked at PVUSD for 26 years in many roles, including classroom aide, administrative assistant, bilingual language tester, family advocate, and 11 years teaching first grade. Bobbi Jo Palmer introduced me to Gakko and many cultural events. I have two dogs, two cats and a grand dog that we care for. I enjoy gardening, reading, and spending time with my husband and son.
Supplies
Each child will need a pencil box with the following materials: pencils, markers, a glue stick, and a pair of scissors. In addition, please send your child with a box or bag to store projects they are working on. All other materials will be provided.
Attire
On Wednesday we will be using indigo dye. We will have smocks. Students should come to Gakko wearing clothes that aren't too new or fancy because some of the projects can be a little "colorful." We will be outside from time to time so hats and sunscreen are recommended.
Field Trip
Traditionally the 4th-grade Gakko students visit Bamboo Giant, a bamboo plant nursery, which is located at 5601 Freedom Blvd, Aptos, CA 95003. Please fill out the permission slip if you agree to let your child participate in this field trip and turn into your teacher or the administration table.
Closing Program Performance
Arupusu Ichiman Jaku (Song and hand game about the Alps) (sung to Yankee Doodle)
Ame-furi (Rainy Day Song)
Costumes: can be outdoor gear, hiking gear, rain hats, galoshes (We will supply umbrellas for this song.)
